Biography

After graduating from St. Anne's College, Oxford, I trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School under Nat Brenner, as an actor and director. I was an acting/writing member of two collective theatre companies; first Red Ladder in Leeds, and then New Perspectives Theatre Company, the community theatre company funded by the Arts Council to serve the East Midlands region. After writing four plays for that company, I became a free-lance writer. Many of my plays for both adults and children have been toured and performed in theatre and non-theatre venues throughout the country by companies including the Nuffield Theatre Southampton, Avon Touring, Oxfordshire Touring Theatre, Derby Playhouse, Action Transport Theatre, Theatre Centre, and The Half Moon Young People's Theatre Company. I have written original series, individual plays and adaptations for Radio and episodes for two long-running Television series, Children's Ward and Emmerdale. I have taught in community settings, schools and Universities, including at Bolton, Salford and Manchester Metropolitan Universities. I have read scripts for a number of theatres and agencies including North West Playwrights and Birmingham Rep. Currently a member of the Executive Committee of the Writer's Guild of Great Britain, I am also Chair of the Library Theatre's Community Consultation Panel.
