Biography

Previously a Director at the Ted Hughes Arvon Centre at Lumb Bank, Stephen May is now a novelist, playwright and TV writer. His first novel TAG, completed during his studies on the Manchester Writing School's Online MA Creative Writing programme, was one of ten books longlisted for Welsh Book of the Year and went on to win the Media Wales Readers' Prize – an award voted for by the general public, as the best book on the list. His plays Back the World and Still Waiting for Everything toured nationally to good reviews. Stephen wrote the best-selling how-to guide Teach Yourself Creative Writing (Hodder and Staughton) and his second novel Life! Death! Prizes! was published in 2012 in the UK, USA, Australia and Germany to critical acclaim. His third, Wake up Happy Every Day (Bloomsbury) followed in 2014. 

Stephen May was brought up in Bedford and now lives in West Yorkshire.
